Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Vice President and MP Dr. M.L.A.M. Hizbullah has alleged that attempts are being made to obstruct investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks and called for all those responsible to be brought before the law, regardless of their status or influence.
Addressing a public event on Thursday, Hizbullah said the Easter Sunday attacks had devastated the country, with the Christian community suffering the greatest loss through deaths, injuries and destruction of property.
He said the Muslim community also faced severe consequences in the aftermath of the attacks, particularly in Kattankudy, claiming the community endured hardship, financial losses, business closures and unfounded accusations.
Hizbullah said investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks are currently being carried out under the government of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, but alleged that certain individuals were attempting to hinder the process.
He urged authorities to identify and prosecute everyone responsible for the attacks, irrespective of their rank, position or economic influence.
The MP also said the Muslim community deserved an official vindication that it had no connection to the attacks and expressed the community’s willingness to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
He called on the government to ensure justice for the victims and to take all necessary steps to bring those responsible before the law. (Newswire)
