Sri Lankan MP leads delegation to meet Tamil Nadu CM Vijay

A delegation representing Sri Lanka’s Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF)-led Tamil National Council met C. Joseph Vijay, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in Chennai on Friday to discuss issues affecting Sri Lankan Tamils.

The delegation, led by TNPF leader and MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, met the Chief Minister at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat and handed over a written memorandum outlining several key concerns.

According to a statement issued by Ponnambalam, discussions focused on the current political and human rights issues faced by Sri Lankan Tamils, the need for a federal political solution recognising the sovereignty of the Tamil nation, and calls for an independent international investigation into alleged atrocities against Eelam Tamils.

The delegation also discussed the need for a permanent solution to issues affecting Indian and Sri Lankan Tamil fishermen, as well as long-standing concerns relating to Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in India.

The seven-member delegation included former MP Selvarasa Gajendran, Tamil National Green Movement leader Ponnuthurai Aingaranesan, Democratic Tamil National Party leader K.V. Thavarasa, TNPF National Organiser Dharumalingam Suresh, official spokesperson Kanagaratnam Sukash, and policy secretary Nadarajah Kandeephan.
