PM meets National Women’s Commission

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with the Chairperson and Commissioners of the Independent National Women’s Commission of Sri Lanka at Temple Trees on Friday.

During the meeting, the Commission briefed the Prime Minister on progress in implementing the Women’s Empowerment Act, No. 37 of 2024, the Prime Minister’s Media Division said.

The delegation also highlighted that the National Women’s Commission is Sri Lanka’s first independent statutory body established to promote, protect, and advance women’s rights while leading the implementation of the national agenda for women’s empowerment.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya commended the Commission’s progress and expressed appreciation for its continued efforts to promote women’s rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment in Sri Lanka.

The meeting was attended by Commission Chairperson Grace Asirwatham, Commissioners Jayanthi Kuru-Uthumpala, Janaka Selvaraj, Dr. Padma Gunaratne, M. U. Gayani, and Executive Director K. D. R. Olga. (Newswire)
