
A 23-year-old alleged organized crime suspect wanted over the fatal shooting of an attorney-at-law and his wife has been brought back to Sri Lanka from the Maldives, Police said.
The suspect was arrested upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake on Friday (4) by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and has been handed over to the Western Province South Crimes Division for further investigations.
Police said the suspect, a resident of Ethkandura, was wanted in connection with the shooting of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda, within the Talangama Police Division, on 13 February 2026. His details had been entered into the airport’s automated facial recognition system to facilitate his arrest upon arrival.
Police also said the suspect had previously been arrested by Baddegama Police for possession of illicit drugs in October 2025 and by Embilipitiya Police for possession of heroin in December 2025. In both instances, he had been produced before court and fined.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Western Province South Crimes Division. (Newswire)
