
Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala says more than 1,000 Police officers have been removed from service over various wrongdoings, it was reported.
The Minister said a portion of those dismissed were found guilty of charges including involvement in drug trafficking and maintaining links with members of criminal gangs.
Others were removed after being found guilty of dereliction of duty and accepting bribes, he said.
Minister Wijepala further noted that swift investigations are being carried out into complaints lodged against Police officers. (Newswire)
