
Sri Lanka has reported 61,060 dengue cases so far this year, with 39 deaths recorded, according to the latest National Dengue Control Unit surveillance figures. The case fatality rate stands at 0.06%.
The outbreak has surged in recent months, with 21,546 cases in June alone, followed by 5,673 cases in July up to the 5th of July 2026.
Earlier months saw 8,590 cases in May, 5,651 in April, 6,013 in March, 5,721 in February, and 7,866 in January.
District‑level data shows the Western Province remains the hardest hit, accounting for 52.5% of all cases. Colombo (12,445 cases) and Gampaha (12,282) together represent over 40% of the national total.
Other high‑risk districts include Matara (4,428), Kalutara (4,092), Kandy (3,901), and Ratnapura (3,588).
Authorities have identified 142 high‑risk MOH areas during Week 26, with an average of 2,604 new cases per week.
Health officials continue to urge community participation in eliminating mosquito breeding sites, stressing that fumigation alone is insufficient to curb the spread. (Newswire)
