The Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for Batticaloa, Ampara and Monaragala districts, warning that the heat index is expected to reach the “Caution” level in some areas on Thursday (09).

The department said the heat index, which reflects how hot the weather feels to the human body by combining air temperature and relative humidity, is likely to increase during daytime hours.

It warned that prolonged exposure to the sun and strenuous outdoor activity could cause fatigue, while continued exertion may lead to heat cramps.

The department advised residents in the affected districts to stay well hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight where possible, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. (Newswire)
