A prison officer who sustained critical injuries during the violent clash at the Negombo Prison has died while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
The officer had been admitted to the hospital following the unrest and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
The Prisons Department confirmed that the latest fatality has raised the death toll from the Negombo Prison violence to 28.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said 12 injured persons remain in intensive care units (ICUs) while receiving treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
