Sri Lanka will host the Fourth BIMSTEC Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting and Senior Officials’ Meeting on 17 and 18 March 2027, following Cabinet approval of a proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture.
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi‑Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is a regional organization comprising Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, with its prime objective being the promotion of economic cooperation among countries bordering the Bay of Bengal.
Agriculture, a major source of income for BIMSTEC member states, has been included as a key area of cooperation due to its importance for sustainable development and regional food security.
The Agriculture Ministers’ and Senior Officials’ Meetings are held every two years, with Sri Lanka now set to host the fourth edition. (Newswire)
