
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a high‑level discussion at the Presidential Secretariat this morning to examine solutions to the problems currently facing Sri Lanka’s prison system.
The meeting brought together senior officials from relevant ministries and the Department of Prisons, who presented proposals and ideas that were reviewed in detail.
Discussions also focused on expanding prison facilities and exploring alternative measures to ease existing challenges.
Among those present were Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuiyakontha, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice Ayesha Jinaseena, and Commissioner General of Prisons Prasad Hemantha Kumara.
