The Supreme Court has dismissed, without hearing, a fundamental rights petition that sought to annul a circular allowing women and men to change their gender.

The petition named former Presidents Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe, as well as current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, among its respondents.

It was filed by Shantha Jayatilaka, a retired disabled officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The petition was not taken up for examination and was instead struck off, effectively ending the challenge to the circular. (Newswire)
