Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan said in Parliament that he does not expect to remain in the legislature for much longer, claiming he may leave within the next two to three weeks.
“I won’t be in this Parliament much longer. I won’t trouble you for long. I’ll only be here for another two or three weeks,” Ramanathan said.
The MP alleged that he had faced intimidation after raising public concerns during a District Coordinating Committee (DCC) meeting and claimed he had submitted several complaints and documentary evidence relating to alleged corruption in the North to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, as well as to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, but that no investigations had been initiated.
He also alleged that no proper investigation had been carried out into a fire at the drug store of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital and claimed he had faced threats and legal action after raising the issue.
Ramanathan further claimed that legal action seeking his removal from Parliament had created the perception among some Tamil people that independent representatives from the North were being unfairly targeted.
He urged the government to address the concerns and ensure equal treatment for independent representatives. (Newswire)
