The Cabinet of Ministers has granted policy approval for the establishment of the Chartered Institute of Computing of Sri Lanka, elevating the country’s premier professional body in information and communication technology to chartered status.
The Computer Society of Sri Lanka, founded in 1976, is the foremost and only institution representing ICT professionals in the country.
Officials noted that charter recognition will place the society on par with other professional organizations that have obtained similar formal status, strengthening its role in representing the aspirations of computing professionals.
The proposal was presented by His Excellency the President in his capacity as Minister of Digital Economy.
The Cabinet decision also instructed the Legal Draftsman to prepare a draft bill in line with the proposed objectives, paving the way for formal establishment of the Chartered Institute of Computing of Sri Lanka.
The move underscores Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing the ICT sector and aligning professional standards with international benchmarks. (Newswire)
