Leaders of main opposition political parties met this afternoon at the office of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa to discuss the Government’s proposal to increase the retirement age of judges.
The meeting was convened by Premadasa to formulate a common opposition position on the proposal, which has drawn criticism from opposition parties over concerns about its potential impact on the independence of the judiciary.
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was among those who attended the discussions.
The Government’s proposal to increase the retirement age of judges has become a key issue in recent days, with opposition parties arguing that any changes affecting the judiciary should be approached with caution and following broad consultation. (Newswire)
