Two Sri Lankan nationals who allegedly travelled illegally by boat to Dhanushkodi were detained by India’s Marine Police on Friday, Indian media reported.
According to The Hindu officers patrolling the area as part of the Sagar Kavach coastal security exercise noticed the two men behaving suspiciously along the shore.
They were identified as G. Vigneswaran, 31, and M. Lusinath, 30, both residents of Wattala.
During questioning, authorities learned that the pair were wanted by Sri Lankan authorities over their suspected involvement in a shooting reported in Wattala on Thursday. They also reportedly face three pending drug-related cases in Sri Lanka.
Following a request from Sri Lankan authorities, the suspects were transferred to a special camp within the Tiruchi Central Prison premises.
The suspects are expected to be repatriated to Sri Lanka within a week, the report said. (Newswire)
