Weather: Showers and strong winds in several areas

A few showers are expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today (25), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Mainly dry weather will prevail elsewhere, the Department said.

Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times in the Northern and North-central provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.

Mainly fair weather is forecast for the sea areas around the island.

South-westerly winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at sea, increasing to 50 kmph at times off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

These sea areas will be fairly rough at times.

Wave heights may increase to between 2 and 2.5 metres in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. (Newswire)
