A Malaysian national has been arrested after police recovered 36,200 cigarettes of various brands allegedly imported into Sri Lanka without payment of duty.
The arrest was made during a raid conducted by officers attached to the Kompannavidiya Police Station on July 25 at the car park of the Cinnamon Life Hotel, within the Kompannavidiya Police Division.
Police said the cigarette stock had been loaded into a cab at the time of the raid for transportation. The cab was also taken into police custody.
The suspect, aged around 30, is due to be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
