Sri Lanka has recorded 82,011 dengue cases so far in 2026, with July alone accounting for 26,636 infections, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
According to the latest data released at midnight on July 26, the Western Province remains the hardest hit, reporting 43,388 cases, more than half of the national total (52.9%). Within the province, Gampaha (17,395 cases) and Colombo (16,294 cases) are the highest‑burden districts. The Southern Province follows with 12,419 cases, while Central (7,068) and Sabaragamuwa (6,793) also report significant numbers.
Fatalities stand at 61 deaths, with a case fatality rate of 0.07%. Health authorities have identified 175 high‑risk MOH areas during Week 29, with an average of 2,391 new cases reported daily.
District‑level data show Matara (5,639) and Kandy (5,634) nearly equal in case counts, while Kalutara (5,355), Ratnapura (4,553), and Galle (4,543) also remain hotspots. In contrast, northern districts such as Kilinochchi (49) and Mullaitivu (49) report the lowest figures.
Health officials warn that the continuing rise in cases highlights the urgent need for intensified vector control measures, community awareness, and early medical intervention to prevent further spread. (Newswire)
