A slight increase in rainfall is expected in the southwestern part of Sri Lanka over the next few days, starting from Tomorrow (July 28), according to the Department of Meteorology.
As such, several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today (27).
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2.00 pm.
Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, the Northern and North-central provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, a few showers may occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
