The Colombo High Court has dismissed a case filed by retired Major General Ashoka Thoradeniya over statements allegedly linking him to the killing of JVP founder Rohana Wijeweera while in custody, according to the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP).
In a statement, the FSP said the case had been filed under the Online Safety Act against several social media platforms and FSP Central Committee member Indrananda de Silva.
According to the party, de Silva, who had served as a photographer in the Sri Lanka Army at the time, had publicly claimed to be an eyewitness and alleged that Thoradeniya, then an Army officer, was involved in Wijeweera’s killing.
The FSP said the statements were subsequently circulated on social media, following which Thoradeniya initiated legal action seeking to prevent their publication.
The party said the Colombo High Court, which took up the case today, decided to dismiss Thoradeniya’s case.
The FSP further said that de Silva had lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) more than a year ago, requesting an investigation into the deaths of JVP leaders while in custody.
According to the FSP, de Silva had also expressed his willingness to provide evidence as an eyewitness in such an investigation. However, the party claimed that the CID has still not recorded a statement from him. (Newswire)
