Sri Lanka has reported 82,838 dengue cases so far this year, with infections surging in July to 27,464 cases, the highest monthly tally.
Health authorities confirmed 61 dengue‑related deaths to date, with a case fatality rate of 0.07%.
The latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit flags 175 high‑risk MOH areas in Week 29, with an average of 2,391 new cases daily.
The Western Province remains the epicenter, accounting for more than half of all cases (43,884). Within the province, Gampaha (17,600 cases) and Colombo (16,457 cases) are the hardest‑hit districts. Other high‑burden areas include Kandy (4,847), Matara (4,728), and Kalutara (4,598).
Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces also face significant outbreaks, recording 12,197 and 9,112 cases respectively. Smaller districts such as Mannar (89) and Mullaitivu (49) reported comparatively low numbers.
