The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested two suspects in Gampola over allegations of soliciting and receiving a Rs. 2 million bribe connected to a tender for supplying food items to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for 2027.
According to the Bribery Commission, the suspects initially demanded Rs. 3 million from the complainant to refrain from submitting tender applications under the names of the suspect’s father and uncle, which would have created competition.
The demand was later reduced to Rs. 2.5 million and finally to Rs. 2 million, which was allegedly accepted as a bribe.
The arrested individuals were identified as Arunagiri Nadar Logendran, a businessman residing in Gampola, and Logendran Sivarajee.
They were taken into custody near the Gampola Post Office car park last morning (27).
The Bribery Commission said that the suspects will be produced before the Gampola Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
