A cricket league in England has launched an investigation after a viral video appeared to show a fielder clicking his fingers to deceive the umpire into awarding a batter out.
The incident occurred during a North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League Division Two match between Saltburn’s second XI and Norton.
The video, which has been viewed more than three million times on social media, appears to show a Saltburn fielder clicking his fingers as the ball passes batter Noman Shabir’s bat before wicketkeeper Josh Bowes completes the catch. The umpire subsequently gave the batter out.
The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League confirmed it has received a formal complaint over alleged incidents during the match and has launched a full investigation.
“The league has received a formal complaint regarding alleged incidents in a Division Two game on Saturday. A full investigation has been initiated and until such time as the formal processes are complete no further comment will be made,” the league said.
Saltburn won the match by 159 runs and remain top of the Division Two table.
According to reports, allegations have also been made over two other incidents during a previous Saltburn match. (Newswire)
