Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has praised veteran singer Dr. Sujatha Attanayake for her enduring contribution to Sri Lanka’s cultural identity and her ability to unite people through art.
“A nation’s cultural memory is shaped not only by history books, but also by the creations, voices and memories that live on in the hearts of its people,” the Prime Minister said.
She made the remarks while attending the “Dr. Sujatha Attanayake Pranama” special tribute programme, organised by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation at its Kumaratunga Munidasa Studio on July 28.
The Prime Minister said artists whose contributions endure become architects of a nation’s cultural identity, adding that works of lasting value are not created through division or exclusion.
“Throughout her life, her art and her humanity, Dr. Sujatha Attanayake has shown us the power of bringing people together through culture,” she added. (Newswire)
