Illegal assets worth Rs. 3.8 billion seized since 2024 to be vested with government

Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler says steps are being taken to vest with the government illegal assets worth Rs. 3,811 million that were seized between 2024 and 2026

Speaking at a special media briefing on the progress of the “Ratama Ekata” national operation on Friday (31), Wootler said authorities had moved to deactivate or seize Rs. 1490 million worth of illegal assets in 2024.

He said legal proceedings were initiated to vest Rs. 1549 million worth of illegal property with the State in 2025, while action has already begun this year to confiscate assets valued at Rs. 772 million.

The Police spokesman also revealed that 239,384 suspects linked to drug-related offences have been arrested under the national operation.

According to Wootler, cases have been filed against 995 major drug traffickers, while investigations have been launched into the assets of 378 suspects taken into police custody.

He added that detention orders had been obtained against 3,287 suspects.

Meanwhile, during the nine months since the launch of the “Ratama Ekata” operation, authorities have seized 2,253 kilograms and 834 grams of heroin, 2,640 kilograms and 695 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and 293 kilograms and 732 grams of cocaine.

The total value of the narcotics seized under the operation is estimated at Rs. 102,116 million, according to Police. (Newswire)
