Rainy and windy conditions are expected to continue across southwestern Sri Lanka today due to the active Southwest monsoon, the Department of Meteorology said.

Showers are forecast in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, with rainfall exceeding 100 mm likely in some areas.

Strong winds of 40–50 kmph are also expected across several provinces and in the Monaragala and Trincomalee districts.

Meanwhile, the seas from Kankesanthurai to Pottuvil via Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota will be very rough at times, with winds reaching 60–70 kmph and waves rising to around three metres.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice. (Newswire)
