The police curfew imposed in three Grama Niladhari (GN) Divisions surrounding the Mahara Prison complex has been lifted with immediate effect, Police announced.
The curfew, which was imposed yesterday following the unrest at the Mahara Prison complex, covered the GN Divisions of 246 Kendaliyadda Road West, 246 C Kendaliyadda Road North, and 181 G Dambuwa.
Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons said 20 inmates from Mahara Prison have been transferred to Boossa Prison following the incident.
Police earlier said the unrest caused extensive damage to prison property, while security forces remain deployed in and around the prison complex. Authorities are continuing investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
