A suspect has been arrested for allegedly stealing a bag containing a wallet belonging to a Russian national visiting Sri Lanka, police said.
Acting on information received on 31 July, officers from the Police Special Task Force camp in Arugambay arrested the suspect along the second cross street in Kudakal area, Pottuvil, while he was in possession of the stolen bag.
Police said the bag contained the victim’s wallet with foreign currency valued at Rs. 1.69 million.
The suspect, a 27-year-old resident of Pasarachchenai, Pottuvil, was handed over to the Pottuvil Police along with the recovered property and the victim. Police said steps were being taken to produce the suspect before the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Pottuvil Police. (Newswire)
