Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces and the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (04).
According to the Department of Meteorology, cloudy skies will prevail over these areas.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Several spells of showers will occur in the North-central province.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces and in the Mullaitivu district after 2.00 p.m.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over North-central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces and Trincomalee district.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Colombo, Galle, Hambantota and Batticaloa.
Winds will be south-westerly. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 60-70 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo and from Batticaloa to Mullaitivu via Trincomalee.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough or very rough at times. Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas, until further notice.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo and from Batticaloa to Mullaitivu via Trincomalee will be rough at times.
The wave height may increase about 2.0-2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
