Chilaw Plantations modernized with Rs.150m machinery boost

The Chilaw Plantation Company has taken a major step toward modernization, officially distributing a fleet of new tractors and agricultural equipment worth over Rs. 150 million across its plantation divisions.

The initiative, launched under the program “Chilaw Plantation Company Winning the Future with Technology and Labour Power”, aligns with the national policy statement “Prosperous Country – Beautiful Life”. The official handover took place at the Palugaswewa plantation division.

The new machinery includes 22 water bowsers, 27 tractors, 13 tractor trailers, 10 hand tractors, 7 hand tractor trailers, 31 grass‑cutting machines, 2 mechanical plough machines, 14 bush‑cutting machines, 4 rotavator machines, and 10 disc harrow machines.

Officials said the program’s main objective is to promote mechanization in the plantation sector, enhance labour efficiency, boost production capacity, and equip the industry with modern technology to meet future challenges.

The event was attended by Minister of Plantations and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratne, Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Chandana Abeyratne, Puttalam District MP Ajith Gihan, Ministry Secretary Gunadasa Samarasinghe, and Chairman of Chilaw Plantation Company Chandana Disanayake, along with senior officials, plantation managers, and staff.
