Parliament today passed the Animals (Amendment) Bill and the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (Amendment) Bill following their Second Reading debate.
The Animals (Amendment) Bill extends legal provisions governing the transportation of cattle and buffaloes to include pigs, sheep and goats. Under the new law, official permits will be required for transporting these animals, with the aim of strengthening measures to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Meanwhile, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (Amendment) Bill seeks to improve the institutional efficiency of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB), enhance the management of water supply services, and expand the Board’s responsibilities.
Both Bills were first presented in Parliament on July 21, 2026, and were passed following the Second Reading debate held on Wednesday. (Newswire)
