The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers and strong winds across several parts of the country over the next 36 hours.
According to the latest weather forecast issued at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Cloudy skies are expected to prevail over these areas.
Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Strong winds of 40-50 km/h are also expected at times over the North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces.
The Met Department has urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
