A 29‑member delegation of professionals from Sri Lanka’s Gem and Jewellery sector has successfully completed a specialised Training and Capacity‑Building Programme in India, held from July 6–23, 2026.
According to the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the programme was conducted at the Indian Institute of Gem & Jewellery, Jaipur, Rajasthan, as part of India’s commitment to provide 700 customised training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals, a pledge made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025.
Over 18 days, participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum covering the entire gem and jewellery value chain, including practical tools, editing, and 3D print‑ready outputs. The training also featured site visits to leading gemstone manufacturing units such as Valentine Silver International, Jaipur, offering first‑hand exposure to modern production technologies, design development, and retail practices.
Officials noted that the programme has strengthened professional competencies, promoted knowledge exchange, and deepened institutional and industry linkages between India and Sri Lanka. The initiative reflects the continued commitment of both countries to capacity building and people‑centric economic cooperation. (Newswire)
