
The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for strong winds and rough seas, effective until 7.00 am tomorrow (11).
According to the advisory, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be very rough at times, with gusty winds exceeding 60 kmph. Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into these waters until further notice.
The warning further notes that sea areas from Batticaloa to Chilaw via Trincomalee, Kankasanthurai and Mannar, as well as from Galle to Matara, will also be rough at times, with winds reaching up to 50 kmph. Fishermen and naval communities operating in these regions are urged to remain vigilant.
Authorities caution that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can also be expected during thundershowers.
The Department of Meteorology has requested all naval and fishing communities to stay attentive to future forecasts issued in this regard. (Newswire)
