Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Ambassador to Israel, Saman Chandrasiri, formally presented his Letter of Credence to President Isaac Herzog at Beit HaNassi, the President’s Residence in Jerusalem.
According to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel, President Herzog extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Chandrasiri, wishing him success in his assignment. He fondly recalled the visit to Sri Lanka by his late father, former President Chaim Herzog, and highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
Acknowledging Sri Lanka’s contribution to Israel’s economy, President Herzog praised the role of Sri Lankan workers and described labour relations between the two countries as a mutually beneficial partnership. He also noted Sri Lanka’s popularity among Israeli travellers, who value its natural beauty, hospitality, and memorable experiences.
Ambassador Chandrasiri conveyed greetings from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the people of Sri Lanka, expressing interest in expanding cooperation in agricultural technology, defence, and trade. He emphasized that strong people-to-people ties provide a solid foundation for broadening collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Bringing 25 years of public service experience, Ambassador Chandrasiri has served in the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Prior to his appointment, he worked as Manager – Training and Development, focusing on capacity-building, migration management, and international cooperation. He has also acted as a liaison with diplomatic missions in Colombo and served as a resource person for the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and Sri Lanka Police. He holds a Bachelor of Science Special Degree in Business Administration from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. (Newswire)
