Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for the Sri Lankan elephant to be recognised as the country’s national animal.
In a message marking World Elephant Day, Premadasa said elephants are an integral part of Sri Lanka’s heritage and identity.
He called for both elephants and communities living alongside them to be protected, and for coexistence to become a national commitment.
“Let us recognise the Sri Lankan elephant as our National Animal,” Premadasa said. (Newswire)
