Australian batter Steve Smith was on the receiving end of a humorous outburst from a spectator after raising concerns over the sight screen during the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin.

Play was briefly held up as Smith appeared unhappy with an issue around the sight screen at Marrara Stadium, prompting a frustrated spectator to call out from the stands.

“Just hit the damn thing, Smudge. Stop being a princess,” the spectator was heard shouting, with the moment quickly gaining attention on social media.

Smith, however, provided the main resistance for Australia with the bat, top-scoring with 71 off 109 balls as the hosts were bowled out for just 198.

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud starred with career-best figures of 6 for 55 as the visitors took control of the opening day.

Bangladesh then reached 96 for 1 at stumps, trailing Australia by 102 runs with nine wickets remaining. (Newswire)
