Alleged large-scale drug trafficker and underworld figure Shiran Basik, who had fled Sri Lanka and was hiding in Dubai, has been brought back to the country, Police said.
According to the Police Media Division, the 48-year-old suspect, a resident of Dehiwala, was brought to Sri Lanka on August 14 after being apprehended overseas.
Police said Basik is wanted in connection with several investigations involving drug trafficking and other alleged criminal activities.
Investigations related to alleged drug trafficking are being handled by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Dehiwala and Mirihana Police stations, while cases involving the possession of firearms are linked to the Mount Lavinia and Dehiwala Police stations.
He is also wanted in connection with the alleged possession of dangerous and sharp weapons, as well as membership in an unlawful assembly and causing damage.
Police said further investigations will also focus on suspected illegal assets allegedly acquired through drug trafficking and other organised criminal activities.
Further investigations are underway on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police. (Newswire)
