A 19-year-old has died and another youth remains missing after three young men got into difficulty while bathing in the Maha Oya in the Madurupitiya area of Mirigama.
Police said the incident occurred on the evening of August 15.
Two of the three youths were rescued by area residents and admitted to the Dambadeniya Hospital, while the third remained missing.
One of those admitted to hospital later died while receiving treatment. The deceased was a 19-year-old resident of Mirigama.
Mirigama Police, Police Lifeguard Unit officers and area residents have launched a search operation to locate the missing youth. (Newswire)
