The heat index is expected to rise to the “Caution” level in parts of seven districts during the daytime, according to a heat advisory.
The advisory covers Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara and Monaragala districts.
The heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is combined with the actual air temperature.
People in the affected areas have been urged to be prepared for hot conditions and take necessary precautions, particularly during prolonged exposure to the heat.
Under “Caution” conditions, fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure and physical activity, while continued activity could lead to heat cramps.
