The Ministry of Education has reportedly warned media outlets against recording or publishing comments made by children without the consent of their parents or teachers.
The warning follows concerns over several children who sat for this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Examination being subjected to ridicule on social media after comments they made to the media were circulated online.
The Ministry said it had observed instances where remarks made by children following the examination were being quoted and shared on social media in a manner that subjected them to mockery.
It reportedly stressed that media organisations are not permitted to obtain, record or broadcast comments from children without obtaining permission from their parents, guardians or teachers.
The Ministry has also reportedly warned media outlets responsible for releasing such videos on social media that legal action could be taken over violations involving children. (Newswire)
