The first petition challenging the constitutionality of the 22nd Amendment Bill to the Constitution, which was tabled in Parliament today (18), was filed before the Supreme Court.

The petition was filed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Treasurer T.M.S. Pasindu Silva and its Assistant Secretary.

The petitioners are seeking a Supreme Court determination that the Bill, if enacted, must be approved by a two-thirds majority in Parliament and also by the people at a referendum. (Newswire)
