A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for allegedly spreading unverified and false information claiming that an LTTE training camp was operating in a forest reserve in Akkarayankulam.
Police said the suspect had circulated the claims through a video on social media and during a media briefing.
According to the Police Media Division, the man was arrested on August 18 over claims that an LTTE training camp was being operated in the Palai forest reserve within the Akkarayankulam Police area.
The suspect is a resident of Bellanwila, Boralesgamuwa.
He is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, while police said legal action is expected to be taken under the Penal Code and the Police Ordinance. (Newswire)
