
The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an amber advisory for strong winds and rough seas in several coastal areas of Sri Lanka.
The advisory, issued at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, will remain in effect until 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20.
Sea areas off the coast from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of 50-60 km/h.
Wave heights could increase to between 2.5 and 3 meters in sea areas extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara, while nearby coastal areas could also experience seawater inundation.
Naval and fishing communities have been advised to remain vigilant. (Newswire)
