
Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has called for applications to fill 1,037 vacancies for drivers and conductors on a contract basis at its depots across the island.
The recruitment drive includes 788 driver vacancies and 249 conductor vacancies, with priority to be given to candidates recruited from the respective regions.
Applicants for driver positions must be aged between 21 and 45, have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination with two distinctions, and hold a valid heavy vehicle driving licence for more than three years. They must also meet the specified physical and health requirements.
Applicants for conductor positions must be aged between 18 and 45 and have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, including Mathematics and their mother tongue, with two credit passes.
Selected drivers and conductors will receive a monthly basic contract allowance of Rs. 40,847 and Rs. 40,008 respectively, in addition to a living allowance of Rs. 17,800, overtime and incentive allowances.
The SLTB said employees will contribute 8% to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), while the employer will contribute 12%. The employer will also contribute 3% to the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF).
Recruitment will be based on an interview, practical test and the results of relevant training courses. The SLTB said there would be no change of workplace after appointment.
Successful applicants will also be issued travel permits to travel to and from their workplace within a 30-kilometre radius.
Applications prepared according to the prescribed format should be sent by registered post to the Chief Executive Officer, Sri Lanka Transport Board, No. 200, Kirula Road, Narahenpita, Colombo 05, to be received by September 7, 2026.
The post and district applied for should be clearly indicated on the top left-hand corner of the envelope. Applicants will be required to produce their school leaving certificate at the interview. Incomplete applications or applications that do not comply with the prescribed format will be rejected. (Newswire)
