The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) deployed personnel and a helicopter to help contain a fire that broke out in the Maiyawa Wewa reserve area in Anawilundawa, Madurankuliya.
The special firefighting operation was carried out on August 21 after the fire erupted in the reserve area.
The SLAF said firefighters and an emergency response team from SLAF Base Palavi were deployed to the area, while a Bell 412 helicopter was also used in the operation.
The helicopter conducted a Bambi Bucket operation, collecting water from Sengal Oya and dropping it from the air over the affected area to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The SLAF worked alongside the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Disaster Management Centre, Divisional Secretariat and local residents in efforts to bring the fire fully under control. (Newswire)
