A national free vaccination programme has been launched to protect cattle, buffaloes and goats from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation said.

The programme is aimed at preventing the rapid spread of FMD and LSD among livestock, particularly during natural disasters, while improving the health of the country’s livestock population and strengthening the livestock sector.

More than Rs. 152 million has been allocated for the vaccination programme.

Of the total allocation, Rs. 79,275,000 has been set aside for FMD vaccinations and Rs. 73,030,000 for LSD vaccinations, bringing the total cost to Rs. 152,305,000.

The free vaccines are being distributed to all divisional veterinary centres established at district level.

Cattle, buffalo and goat owners, as well as farmers, have been urged to take their animals to the relevant veterinary centres to receive the free vaccinations and contribute to protecting the country’s livestock population. (Newswire)
