The Sri Lanka Cricket Media Team secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over the India Cricket Media Team in a friendly T20 encounter played at the St. Benedict’s College Grounds, coinciding with India’s ongoing tour of Sri Lanka in 2026.
The match, initially scheduled as a 20-over contest, was reduced to 12 overs per side due to rain.
India, led by veteran cricket writer R. Kaushik, opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted a competitive 101 for 4 in their allotted 12 overs.
Sahil Malhotra top-scored for the visitors with a well-compiled 41, while Sandipan Banerjee contributed 22. For Sri Lanka, Chamila Karawita, Andrew Fidel Fernando and Dinesh Upendra claimed a wicket each.
Chasing 102 for victory, Sri Lanka made light work of the target, reaching 102 for 3 with 11 balls to spare.
The hosts were led by a sensational unbeaten 60 from Damith Weerasinghe, who produced an attacking innings from just 31 deliveries, striking seven fours and three sixes.
Weerasinghe was well supported by Azzam Ameen as the pair put together an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the fourth wicket to seal a memorable victory for the Sri Lankan media outfit.
Sri Lanka were captained by senior journalist Daminda Wijesuriya, while India were led by Kaushik in what proved to be an entertaining occasion bringing together members of the cricket media from both countries.
The friendly encounter also featured a special touch off the field, with Moose Clothing Company curating exclusive Sri Lanka and India jerseys for the two media teams. Chance Sports also contributed to the occasion by providing the match trophies.
The match provided a wonderful opportunity for the cricket media communities of Sri Lanka and India to come together in a spirit of friendship, camaraderie and healthy competition alongside the ongoing India tour of Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
