Australian low‑cost carrier Jetstar Airways will begin direct flights between Melbourne and Colombo tomorrow (25), marking the airline’s first service to Sri Lanka.
The inaugural JQ5 flight is scheduled to depart Melbourne at 12.00 pm and arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 5.50 pm. The return JQ6 service will leave Colombo at 7.50 pm and reach Melbourne at 10.00 am the following day.
The new route will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
Jetstar has described the service as Australia’s only low‑cost direct connection to Sri Lanka, offering more than 100,000 seats annually between the two cities.
The airline said the route would provide affordable travel options while supporting tourism and meeting growing demand for travel between Australia and Sri Lanka.
