The Public Health Inspectors’ Union today began a nationwide trade union action at 8.00 am, suspending all administrative data submissions and system updates in protest against the transfer of PHI B.H. Migasdeniya from the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport Health Office.
Union officials said the move was prompted by opposition to irregular activities at the airport health office and criticized the Ministry of Health for failing to provide a solution despite being informed earlier.
As part of the action, all Public Health Inspectors and Administrative PHIs across the island will halt the provision of reports and data to the administration. The union stated that any data withheld during this period will not be updated into systems at a later stage.
They demanded the immediate cancellation of Migasdeniya’s transfer and called for a fair inquiry into the matter.
The union also strongly rejected attempts to reduce the approved cadre of PHIs at the Colombo Port Health Office and Katunayake Airport Health Office.
At the same time, union leaders stressed their readiness to support a fair investigation and expressed willingness to engage in discussions with authorities at any time. (Newswire)
